Survey Goals
- Develop a better understanding of who 2020 Action’s members are.
- Develop new methods to find more members for 2020 Action based on this information.
Survey Methods
- An email was sent on November 29th to 179 2020 Action members who receive their montly postcards by email. This was approximately two weeks before the survey due-date of December 17th, 2012. The email explained the purpose of the survey and provided a link to the 2020 website where the survey was located. A copy of the email is included at the end of this report.
- Incentives were mentioned in the email, one being a signed 11”x14” print of one of 2020’s postcard photographs, as well as three free memberships.
- The survey could be taken anonymously, or email addresses could be given to be entered in drawing for the prizes.
- The first email request yielded 18 responses over the course of 1 week.
- A reminder email was sent again 1 week before the survey due-date.
- The second email yielded 10 more survey responses, bringing the total to 28.
- The overall response rate was 16%.
Results
Conclusions:
- There was a 16% overall response rate (28 out of 179 members)
- The average age of respondees is 58.
- Everyone is white (European American, Caucasian)
- Almost half are from Massachusetts.
- 75% use some type of social media.
- 85% have a college degree or more.
- Many members read the NYT, listen to NPR, and visit websites such as HuffingtonPost, Mother Jones, Democracy Now and AlterNet.
