December 2025: Stop the Arctic Drilling Expansion
BACKGROUND: The Trump administration and its allies in Congress are rapidly moving to sell off vast tracts of public lands in Alaska and expand fossil fuel drilling, including in the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge, an area that has never seen industrialization. New drilling in the Arctic would harm wildlife, birds, fish, and people who depend on this habitat, as well as broader environmental impacts on Alaska and the planet from burning fossil fuels.
Congress is planning to push these rollbacks through fast. We need your voice to help protect nearly 13 million acres of land in the Arctic.
The existing protections on public lands in Alaska were put in place after years of scientific input, Indigenous knowledge, and robust public engagement. Alaska’s Arctic is warming 3-5 times faster than the rest of the planet, and expanded drilling will only make it worse.
ACTION: Contact your Representative and Senators, and urge them to vote against three Joint Resolutions that would remove restrictions on oil and gas leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge:
House: H.J. Res 131 and H.J. Res 124
Senate: S.J. Res 91
These resolutions would open the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge to development, causing significant harm to some of our country’s last remaining ecological safe havens. Tell your members of Congress: Protect existing safeguards for our public lands in the Arctic.
